Photos from a trip to Butuan, Agusan del Norte, Philippines, my mom's hometown, in 2016. She told me it was too dangerous to walk around by myself, so I took photos from our hotel balcony, which was on a corner in the city's main square. I would sit there all day and people watch while my mom was out with her friends. I loved the sounds of the city and the moto-taxi's passing by. I felt isolated in the comfort of our room, trying to connect to my maternal family's home.
